There are multiple solution available for converting MBOX to EML file format. You can google this solution. Last time I used a solution for same issue and got great result with this MBOX to EML Converter tool. I will recommend you to download this Thunderbird MBOX to EML software from here : https://www.sysessential.com/mbox-eml-converter/
Yes. We need to be able to do this.
I love this software. So much better than Mac Mail.
Will be migrating from entourage running on a ppc Mac running leopard to a new mail client ( not yet chosen) running on a new iMac, I will need to export & import thousands of emails. Can airmail do this?
Just use Mac Mail. Airmail just continues to aggravate the user base.
As of January 2017 this function (see Karen's comment) worked fine for me.
Worked for me!
You can improve airmail by finally implement import mails from mbox and to let us export our mails.

Import email is easy, but the key to this is the lack of any real export. If you change your mind and decide that Airmail is not for you and you have local folders (not IMAP) then you are totally stuck, you can only export individual emails. This must be deliberate to trap you as it cannot be rocket science. I generally like airmail but I'll never use them again until this is rectified.
I was ready to purchase this app until I happened upon this section. This is the stopper for me. I love this app but without the ability to import mbox files it's not going to work for me and, I suspect, for many others. Most of us are interested in transitioning from other email clients - Apple Mail, Outlook, etc. Without a functioning import ability this app is useless.

This advice helped me.
1. Make a local account by going to ‘Preferences > Accounts > +sign > Add Local Account.
2. Go to ‘Preferences > Accounts > [Local Account] > and choose Load message.
3. In the finder press, Command + Shift + G and enter ~/library/Mail
4. Choose V3. Import begins.

Version 3 came out today and still can't import mbox files. I feel disappointed as they're still advertising this feature but I can't import mbox or eml files.

What is even more frustrating is there is an article in their Airmail Support Knowledge Base and Tips that says: "As of Airmail Beta 1.3 (221) or later supported to import your messages from various formats such as EML, EMLX and MBOX."
I have Beta 2.6 (350) and NOTHING gets imported to a local account from an .mbox.
It's one thing not to have the feature. It's another to mislead people.
Was told by support that they will add .mbox import/export. Hopefully soon...
I agree. Bought the Airmail2 app and love the look and feel. But until export in .mbox format is implemented I don't feel comfortable using it. Backup is too important. Will sadly have to go back to Apple Mail for now.

Having the ability to export folders from a local account is key to avoid being "trapped" to Airmail:
Without the certainty that I will be able to export all my email archive from Airmail should I want/need to do it someday, I will not migrate (even if Airmail suits all my other needs).
