Turn off Selection Inclusion on Reply
I have been using Airmail for several years now, and there is one feature that still kind of irks me. Often times, I will select and copy a password or email address in the conversation. Then, I will go to reply to the message, and only the selection is included in the reply. This has caused me to to have to close out the message and start a new one countless times. Do you mind adding a preference where Airmail doesn't do this by default? Thank you for your consideration.

Agree, this "feature" got to be optional. It is very frustrating as I often automatically and accidentally select pieces of text as I read it. I can't help it. My counterparts complain that I break the email threads and this is the biggest reason why I'm looking for switching to other email clients. Regardless, how convenient Airmail client is, I can't afford breaking conversations.

I'm a little frustrated that this suggestion, with a healthy amount of votes, and stretching back years, still hasn't been addressed. When I asked about it in "chat", I was told that my feedback would be passed on, and there's no need to mention it as a feature request. With so many other fine customization options in the app, I just don't understand why they don't seem to want to include this one?

I agree with all the rest here. This is an annoying "feature" and I would love to see this as a preference in the settings.

Even if this was an option that needed to be set in a plist or something. This is the #1 reason I keep looking at other email clients. Love Airmail, this "feature" is the most annoying thing of my email days.

I'm highly annoyed by this behaviour as well. Please give us the option to always include the whole conversation!

Interesting that ppl think this behavior is commonplace. Apple Mail gives exactly the preference sought after (quote original text) also (include selected text if any else all text). Only default I've ever seem to have had (on quite a lot of mail pgms) is to include text... so I've never had reason to check those settings and so have never actually known they were there. For decades! To the point where I'd switched back to Mail because this default 'exclude' behavior in Airmail looked to me like a bug which was wiping out my workflow. Which - incidentally - is why I'm on this post. So I can workaround it now via 'select all', v. good to know now, but the current behavior is certainly the opposite of other programs and I think needs to be reconsidered.

This is my biggest gripe with airmail..
I 100% ... no wait 1000% want the feature to be implemented..
If you go:
Preferences > Accounts > Composer
Reply:
The dropdown box is already there for the setting we just need another option [ Always Include Full Original Message ] or [ Ignore selection and include full original message ]

@Jo this is why we (yes, I'm backing this question) are asking for a PREFERENCE. This way you can turn it on/off at your own desire.
BTW: your remark "the default way that almost every email client works.' makes me think you don't understand the question.
IBM Notes, Outlook, Apple Mail, Gmail web, ... neither of these clients work like that. Only Airmail does. -

I agree, please turn off or make an option available!

I also think this would be a nice feature to have. Give ME the option to decide if I want only the selection to be forwarded. @jo, I understand that other email clients don't have this option, we are not using other email clients. Hopefully you reconsider - by giving the user the option, you can keep your email working however you want it.

This happens to me so often as well!! "Select text, click reply, get frustrated by this automated non-smart functionality, discard my reply, unselect, reply again"
Airmail team: can you make EVERYTHING a parameter, for those super-users/geeks like me who want to adjust everything? Maybe a "developer options" mode that won't encumber options screen for normal users?

@Jo: This is a suggestion to add a preference to disable this feature. I came to this forum to look for this specific request. Different people have different workflows.
Please, please, please make this preference in the next version.

Not sure if you realize this Nathan, but this feature is the default way that almost every email client works. If a client "doesn't" do this then it's most likely faulty or something they forgot. This is a good feature because many times some people want to forward just a portion of an email, and I don't know about you, but I get a lot of emails that are forwarded a billion times to a billion people and they attach the previous message and.... Frankly I don't want to have to delete everything manually except what I want in the message. That's what that feature is for, to allow quick forwards/replies to specific areas of a message in one click rather than hitting Forward and then having to go through and delete a bunch of unneeded or unwanted content.
I would vote for it to be left how it is. :)
