"Add to Contacts" should work in the native OSX way
At the moment, adding a person to your contacts from an email just creates a new record in the OSX address book. This isn't expected behaviour for OSX apps. Instead, the option of "Create New" or "Add to Existing" should be offered, like in all Apple's apps.

The way Airmail adds email addresses to the Contacts app isn't intuitive and it requires the user to go through another step.
Airmail adds a new contact with only the email address. It doesn't add the contact's name, even when this is given in the email address with the format `First Last <first@last.com>`. I have to find that contact in the Contacts app and click Edit and then add their name.
Which is another thing: The new contact isn't highlighted/selected when the Contacts app opens with the search results of a previous search, and a contact from that previous search is selected. So I have to clear the search results and then search for the new contact's email address to be able to find and edit them.

Use Airmail on all devices, but still have to open the native Mac Mail if I want to quickly add a contacts details from their signature block. Mac Mail doesn't always get it completely right, but it's still MUCH quicker than having to copy out the signature block to the notes section new contact add in OSX contacts client, then highlight the data and drag to the appropriate entry feilds. Also the add email contact directly from Airmail does not respect the first name / last name rules. i.e. if the email comes through with smith, john - john.smith@blah.com Airmail puts Smith as the first name and John as the last name :-(

Agreed-I miss that feature also. Use it all the time and THE reason for why I still use the native mail client

I was just looking up to see if there was a way to do so in a native way, certainly a feature that needs adding asap.

I'll second the comment from anon on 2015-01-11: I add lots of new contacts from emails received. What I would like is for the contact card to open so I can add other details like phone numbers and company names.

Agreed. It would be a huge value add to add to an existing contact or create a new one and it would be helpful if it pulled information from the email signature to include title, address, phone numbers, etc. Take a cue from Copy2Contact

Import is not needed in Airmail as it uses the native Adressbook. Just import your contacts in contacts app

+ Import .csv for those of us migrating from another desktop email client

In addition, I add lots of new contacts from emails received. Currently I can just add the email address. What I would like is for the contact card to open so I can add other detaisl eg phone numbers and details that maybe in the signature fields of their email and be able to edit the first name/last name fields
