How can we improve Airmail?

Support IMAP keywords (similar to Thunderbird tags)

Currently labels and folders are used in the same way, because Gmail uses them that way. IMAP does support keywords for messages which Thunderbird uses to tag messages with named tags. It would be great if Airmail would support this instead of folders as labels for IMAP accounts. Currently I cannot use the Todo/Memo/Done functions because they would move messages to a different folder, I would like to use this feature while using folders at the same time.

    yes please. This works in exchange servers as well. In fact, I think this could lead to a rethink of folders/labels/tags. These three concepts are different but in implementation but similar in effect.

    Folders: a folder where email is archived (one email to folder)
    Labels: gmail basically uses tags for folders
    tags: for non-gmail accounts, these act as labels.

    So, my recommendation is to leave the interface in Airmail alone but to change how it works.

    * move to folders would show a list of all the folders a user has (IMAP,EXCHANGE, POP). This would be populated with the list of folders that a user has in their account
    * Labels would be tags for all non-Gmail accounts. It would repopulate the list based on tags assigned to emails. For gmail users you could leave this alone.

    Agree! This is a must have feature for replacement... A standard top email client must have tech feature!

    Agreed! I use MailTags with Mac Mail and cannot commit to AirMail until it has tags and also the ability to initiate rules via keystroke like the Mail Act-on plugin, also from InDev.

    Any serious contender for the email client space has got to include support for tags... I really like this app but there are two issues keeping me from replacing Apple Mal
    1) Lack of tags
    2) Excessive spikes in CPU usage at times

    The MailTags plugin <http://www.indev.ca/MailTags.html> adds this facility to Apple Mac Mail, and works with IMAP & Exchange accounts; I'm really looking for this facility when considering replacement mail client
