Mute conversations (not just senders)
Please allow us to mute conversations (same as the mute feature in Gmail).
Use cases:
- Any work email chain where people start sending GIFs.
- Any work email chain with dozens of replies about some topic that I’m not interested in.
Currently we can mute senders, but I don’t want to mute my co-workers. I want to mute conversations that are low-priority.

It turns out this is possible, though poorly documented -- and as implemented it can effectively cause DATA LOSS. I would like to see this improved and become a first-class feature.
First, how to do it, then I’ll explain the DATA LOSS.
You can press M or choose Messages > Mute Conversation from the menu.
If you want to find your muted conversations, you press Shift-Cmd-1. I don’t know how I discovered that keyboard shortcut. It’s not shown in the menu as far as I can tell.
DATA LOSS: This seems like a big problem. If someone hits M by accident, the entire conversation will disappear and (if they don’t know about the secret Shift-Cmd-1 keyboard shortcut) they will never see that conversation again… ever. Even if you know about the secret keyboard shortcut, you might not think to look in your muted conversations.
The solution is to make muted conversations a first-class citizen, with a folder item in the left panel similar to Starred or Trash. It would have an unread message counter next to it, just as other folders do.
