Avoid notifications for read email
I have Gmail filters set so unimportant emails are automatically set to read. Unlike other email clients, Airmail notifies for all new email even if it's marked as read in the inbox. This also means you receive a push notification when moving email to the inbox.

I second this. I'm using the same system and Airmail sends me a push notification for every (automatically marked as read) newsletter which is very annoying.
